Paris and Monet's Garden in Giverny-September 6-9,2008 Dordogne - September 9-16, 2008
Renowned artist, teacher and workshop leader, James Wisnowski, twsa, cordially invites you to join him in a plein air painting workshop in two of the most art inspiring areas in France. We shall begin our workshop in the Paris, where we will set up our easels in the exact locations depicted in famous Impressionists paintings. We will also spend a day in Monet's Garden in the town of Giverny, painting his water lily pond along with his house and studio. We will then travel to the town of Eymet in the Dordogne, where we will stay at the Le Petit Rousset. Daily painting and explorations of some towns and villages described below will be on bustling Market Days. We’ll visit other villages as serene as stage sets, waiting for us to bring them to life. We will also enjoy a guided visit to a cave with prehistoric paintings; a medieval fortress and a Renaissance chateau; wineries and a walnut grove; a truffle farm and a water mill where they make paper by hand, the old fashioned way. This 10-day workshop is designed to meet the needs of both the experienced and beginning artist, through personal, one on one instruction and guidance. Jim will show you how to create paintings directly from nature through step by step guidance. Learn different ways of defining your center of interest and balancing your composition. Learn the use of light and shadow and how to plan for local and reflected color. Discover luminous landscapes through the use of direct and confident brush techniques. Develop a sketchbook journal using a quick sketch process. Location opportunities include exploring diverse environments from a colorful markets to a serene and natural rural landscape. Students will paint two locations per day with each study providing the opportunity for instruction on specific elements and techniques. Each day will start with a demonstration, followed by student painting, and critique.
